Postdoc positions in Stellar Astrophysics

Application Deadline: October 25th, 2024

Applications are invited for postdoctoral research positions in stellar astrophysics and asteroseismology in the Asterics group of Lisa Bugnet (https://www.asterics.at) at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) in Klosterneuburg near Vienna. The positions are part of the ERC Starting Grant project Calcifer: Unveiling the mysteries of stellar dynamics — a pioneering journey in magnetoasteroseismology. The advertised positions are for two years initially, with the possibility of an extension based on performance. The start date is flexible but envisioned ideally between January - September 2025.

Candidates with a strong background in observational asteroseismology and/or MHD processes are encouraged to apply. Specific experience with the following topics is considered a strong asset: i) White dwarf asteroseismology, ii) Observational asteroseismology and modeling of g-mode pulsators, iii) Observational magnetoasteroseismology, iv) MHD simulations, v) Angular momentum transport & Stellar evolution models.

Your profile:

  • PhD in Stellar physics or related astrophysical topics completed within the past 5 years, or to be completed by the starting date

  • Extensive Experience in one or more of the above-mentioned topics.

  • An ability to conduct independent research, as well as to work effectively as a member of a research team. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.

Postdoctoral researchers are encouraged to develop ownership of their projects and will receive generous support to travel to international conferences, visit collaborators, and be supported in leading new projects. The successful candidate will be part of a growing group of astrophysicists with opportunities to take on leadership roles and take part in shaping our new community. Co-Supervision of PhD and Master students in the group will also be greatly encouraged. The astronomy group at ISTA is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, and encourages women and people from underrepresented minorities to apply.

Please send together in a unique PDF: a 1-page cover letter, a written summary of research experience, and fit to the Asterics group (max. 4 pages; figures allowed), a CV, the publication list, and contact details for 2-3 references. The document labeled by your surname (e.g., SURNAME_postdoc_application.pdf) should be sent below with the subject starting with POSTDOC APPLICATION.
